Martin Duffy, keyboardist for the band Primal Scream, has died at the age of 55. His former Charlatans colleague Tim Burgess shared the sad news on Twitter. “Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul,” he posted. “Martin Duffy stepped in to save The Charlatans when we lost Rob – he was a real friend.” The cause of the Birmingham-born musician’s death is not yet publicly known.
Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul. Martin Duffy stepped in to save The Charlatans when we lost Rob – he played with us at Knebworth and was a true friend. He toured with me in my solo band too – he was a pleasure to spend time with. Safe travels Duffy ? pic.twitter.com/cvuEvvqYGa

Before Duffy joined Primal Scream, he played in Felt. He joined the band in 1985 at the age of 16. He stepped in at short notice for The Charlatans after founding member Rob Collins passed away. The group supported Oasis in 1996, playing to a crowd of 250,000 at Knebworth.
Primal Scream’s latest album CHAOSMOSIS was released in March 2016.
