Prices rise again in November, after a short period of deflation | Economy

Daily life became 1.6 percent more expensive in November compared to the same month last year, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reports in an initial estimate. Price increases returned after negative inflation, also known as deflation, last month.

In October the average price level fell by 0.4 percent. This was mainly because energy prices in October were considerably lower than the high levels of last year.

There was a less sharp decline in energy prices in November than in October. Excluding energy, inflation was 4.1 percent in November. In October that was 5.1 percent. In the first half of 2023, inflation excluding energy and motor fuels was higher than now, peaking at 8.1 percent in February and March.

The increase in inflation does not mean that prices increased in November compared to October. According to the quick estimate, prices for consumers were 1.1 percent lower in November than in October. Statistics Netherlands will publish the full inflation figures on December 12.
