Thousands of Berliners dream of the Laubenglück. There are around 66,000 allotment gardens. Lots are in demand, the waiting lists are long.

That is why there are now increasingly excessive demands for allotment gardens, warns the State Association of Garden Friends. “There are always attempts to sell gardens at inflated prices and also to bypass the associations,” says association vice president Thorsten Fritz.

There are offers for 20,000 euros and more for 346 square meters and four trees. In Nikolassee, 45,000 euros were asked for a little garden!

The association urgently warns against rip-off. Gardens are appraised by appraisers before they are taken over. “In the case of exceptions, they only come up to 10,000 euros at most. More like 3,000 to 4,000 euros are more usual,” says Fritz.

However, small gardens have long been as popular as apartments. The association reports that demand has exploded, especially during the pandemic.
