Price increase for YouTube Premium: Overview of subscription costs

YouTube Premium users have to dig deeper into their pockets. The Google subsidiary has significantly increased the prices of its subscriptions. Costs are rising in all categories.

YouTube, probably the most used and popular video platform, has been on everyone’s lips for a few weeks now. At first there was always trouble because the company took stronger action against ad blockers, but now the prices for YouTube Premium are also rising. YouTube Premium price increase

The prices for YouTube Premium have already been increased in other countries. Now customers in this country are also affected. Subscription costs in all categories – individual monthly and annual, family, student – ​​will be increased. In some cases even by more than 30 percent. This is how much YouTube Premium users will have to pay for the subscription in the future pay:

  • Individual monthly: 12.99 euros instead of 11.99 euros (+8.34 percent)
  • Individual annually: 129.99 euros instead of 119.99 euros (+8.33 percent)
  • Family: 23.99 euros instead of 17.99 euros (+33.35 percent)
  • Student: 7.49 euros instead of 6.99 euros (+7.15 percent)

With YouTube Premium, users enjoy some freedoms and advantages that “normal” users do not have. Among other things, there are no advertisements before or during the videos. There is also audio playback of the videos and downloads are also possible. You can also have videos running in the background on your smartphone while you use other apps. Despite all these premium features, YouTube’s price increase could backfire.

First ad blocker ban, now higher subscription costs

In recent weeks, YouTube has taken rigorous action against users with an ad blocker. The videos will be blocked from playing if you continue to use an ad blocker. According to the video platform, such tools would violate YouTube’s terms of use. That’s why you have the option of either allowing advertising or taking out a YouTube Premium subscription. In the event of the current price increase, YouTube will contact affected users. You will therefore receive a message stating that you must agree to the price increase in order to continue using the subscription. The new prices apply immediately to new customers. For existing customers, however, the new price will be invoiced in the first billing period at least 30 days after the price increase, loud Google Support.
