PrettyLittleThing launches resale marketplace

Boohoo-owned fast fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing (PLT) will launch a used clothing resale marketplace later this year.

The platform was announced by Molly-Mae Hague, PrettyLittleThing’s UK/EU creative director, during a press event ahead of her inaugural catwalk show, which took place in London yesterday.

Hague announced that the PLT marketplace will initially only be launched in the UK, although the exact date is yet to be determined. By the end of the year, however, the platform is to be expanded to other international markets. The app will allow users to not only sell their old PLT items, but also used items from other brands.

“We’ve been working on this for over a year,” explains Hague. “It’s going to be an app that girls can use to resell their PLT pieces and pretty much anything they’ve worn before. It’s a big step for us and something that we believe will revolutionize the fashion industry because people wouldn’t expect that from us.”

A PLT spokesperson explained that the marketplace is designed to sync with PLT’s existing customer accounts, allowing users to import their old orders and use those images for easy reselling of an item. The system will also allow users to upload and sell fashion items from other brands with their own images.

When the marketplace launches, there will be no fees for sellers, the PLT spokesman said, and the system will allow sellers and buyers to chat via Messenger directly in the app.

Hague sells used clothing for charity

Hague said the marketplace will promote sustainability and get youngsters to rethink throwaway fashion: “It will encourage the girls to think that maybe this piece is still in really good condition and encourage someone else to to buy it and it’s great to make some money for our girls too.”

The influencer will be the first to use the marketplace, selling her used garments as “top sellers,” with proceeds going to charity.

“I have hundreds of PLT garments in my closet that aren’t really wearable and I think it’s great to encourage other people to buy these from me so they can wear them again.”
