Thousands of people came to the Efteling on Sunday evening to experience the very last hours of the Spookslot. The queue, which was normally mainly inside, was for a while tens of meters long even outside the attraction. The procession of visitors was guided in the right direction with crush barriers.
It’s almost a familiar sight. Where earlier this week endless lines meandered through the Efteling for souvenirs at the Spookslot, it was hit again on Sunday evening. Hundreds, if not thousands, of fans hoped to make one last-minute visit to the attraction, which closes for good after tonight. And it was also very busy at the disappearing catering point Het Seylend Fregat.
To ensure that all those waiting actually have their turn, Efteling employees have closed the queue for the Spookslot at 9 p.m. At that point the line almost came to roller coaster Baron 1898.

Employees tried to prevent visitors from entering the queue with a human ribbon. Just after half past nine the line was finally cleared. Then it was up to the staff to say goodbye. Efteling veterans and founders of the Spookslot were also present, such as Lex Lemmens and Mari van Heumen.
Despite the long queue, the atmosphere around the Spookslot was good all evening. Some fans reacted somewhat resignedly or even emotionally, others even came up with a real goodbye song while waiting.
And even after the last visit to the attraction there was plenty of singing.
