The 35-year-old De Kock was in prison in the Netherlands for unlawful deprivation of liberty and involvement in the death of the toddler. On Tuesday morning, De Kock was taken to the Dutch border to be taken to the Beveren police. He was interrogated by the Beveren police on Tuesday afternoon. De Kock would be brought before the investigating judge in Dendermonde today, who would decide in which prison he would stay.
But the public prosecutor’s office already indicated on Tuesday that nothing could be explained in the press at the express request of the investigating judge. Today lawyer Verpoorten received the same question. “At the express request of the investigating judge, all parties were asked not to answer any more questions for the time being,” said master Verpoorten. De Kock will therefore most likely remain in jail. It is not yet clear where he has been detained and when he will be brought before the council chamber.
The body of Dean Verberckmoes was found on January 17 near Neeltje Jans, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. De Kock was arrested earlier that day in Meerkerk, in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The investigating judge in Dendermonde asked for his surrender, which the International Legal Aid Chamber in Amsterdam allowed last week.
The surrender had to be carried out within ten working days, but the Netherlands and Belgium wanted to work faster so that De Kock and his girlfriend RW could face each other. RW has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and kidnapping, but it is not yet clear whether she played an active role in the boy’s death.
