A film that thinks about time
As everyone knows, music has the power to transcend time and transport us back into the past to make us remember good or bad times. This amazing ability is just one of the many themes featured in Press Play – The music of our lifewritten and directed by Greg Björkman, which also focuses on grief and loss. In fact, the film does not only focus on the complexities of time travel but also wants to reflect on the second chances that life offers us. Set in the sunny location of Hawaii, the film has among its strengths the great alchemy between the two protagonists, very good at redeeming a sometimes saccharine script and too focused on their relationship than individual personalities.
Despite these small flaws, the film is romantic and enjoyable also thanks to an eclectic indie soundtrack and the funny interludes offered by her friend Chloe. In some ways similar to Matter of time with Rachel McAdams, Press Play – The music of our life «it’s about how hard it is to let go and break the expectations you set for yourself”, declared the director. “I wanted to make a film that could entertain the audience but also invite them to understand how important it is not to cling to certain goals. My life experiences have made me realize that you can’t control what other people do or think. If we expect to have control over everything, we will be disappointed».
