Presidential aesthetics: an unusual obsession

Despite the complex economic situation of the country, the President Milei has strong concerns about his physique and spreads retouched photos in which he looks thinner and younger. He first turned to a type of makeup called “contouring”, to make the double chin invisibleand then upped the ante with a use so extreme of photoshop that it became the focus of memes and jokes on social networks.

Presidential aesthetics: An unusual obsession is the title of this week’s News cover, illustrated with two images of Milei: an official photo and another taken by a news agency, in which the physiognomic abyss between the two is evident. Journalist Juan Luis González reveals scenes of the president’s fixation, which leads him to repeat the same studied gesture every time someone suggests taking a selfie with them; which leads him to wear jackets that cover his body even on the hottest days; or to endorse his virility with photos of his big feet or his effusiveness in public with his partner. An obsession that suggests the risk that the alteration of his image also expresses a broader distortion of reality.

Also on this week’s cover the unexpected revival of Floricienta, Juanita, the fashionable neighborhood in Punta del Este and the afro hairstyle that celebrities made fashionable this summer.
