Preparations for the Preuvenement are in full swing. Tonight the three-day summer festival starts in the Gouverneurstuin in Assen.
Music, food and drink. That is what the event in the Asser city garden is all about. The organization is still busy building up the 10th edition of the event today.
“We are still working hard today,” says Emil Klok of the organization. He makes sure everything runs smoothly so that 25 restaurants from Assen can display their culinary specialties this weekend. This is done from all kinds of racks, from tents to food trucks. And there’s something for everyone, Klok promises. “From all kinds of cuisines. From Moluccan to French and both cheap and expensive.”
After the festival was canceled for two years because of corona, the music and food festival is bigger than ever. There are more restaurants and more artists than in previous years. “This will be the largest edition to date. With about 50 artists on three stages,” says Klok. The organizer expects 25,000 people to flock to the Asser garden for the free event.
Klok describes the event as a showcase for Assen in the cultural and culinary field. “It is programmed slightly more artistically than the TT festival. And it is a taste of what there is to do in Assen next season.”
Friday evening has been added to the program for the first time. The site has also been expanded with the back of the garden and the Brink in front of the Drents museum. Another new element is the walking route along theatre, poetry, dance and visual art gems from Garage TDI, the Kunstbende and Kunst aan de Vaart, among others.
This week, the organization confirmed two new acts at the last minute: Douwe Bob and the Groningen band Them Dirty Dimes. They will ascend the dome stage in the garden on Saturday. The party closes on Sunday, with performances by Tim Akkerman, Lucas Hamming and Jason Staal, among others.
