Premiere victory for Schnitzelalm-Mercedes in Sunday’s race at the Nürburgring

Almost perfect weekend for Schnitzelalm Racing at the Nürburgring. After second place in Saturday’s race, Marcel Marchewicz and Marek Böckmann win race two of the ADAC GT4 Germany at the guest appearance in the Eifel. It is also the first triumph for the racing team from the Allgäu in the ADAC sports car series.

With second place, the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 duo Indy Dontje and Phil Dörr (Dörr Motorsport) regained the lead of the ADAC GT4 Germany standings. The podium is completed by Saturday’s winners Marcel Lenerz and Cedric Piro (Piro Sports – Burg Zelem Foundation) in the Toyota GR Supra GT4.

“I’m super happy about the win, especially for the team, which always works very hard. There will definitely be a lot of celebrations tonight,” Marchewicz cheered on the podium. However, the former ADAC GT Masters driver Dontje started the Sunday race of the ADAC GT4 Germany from pole position.

The Dutchman also won the start in the Aston Martin and took the lead in front of Hendrik Still (W&S Motorsport) in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. After around five minutes of racing, Still overtook the Aston Martin, but after a few laps he had to hand the lead back to Dontje.

Shifts in position with overtaking maneuvers worth seeing

By the time the pit stop window opened, the Aston Martin driver was able to gain a lead of a good two seconds over the chasing field. In addition to Still, this consisted of Schnitzelalm driver Marchewicz and Toyota driver Cedric Piro. Again and again there were position shifts in this trio with overtaking maneuvers worth seeing.

By the time the drivers changed, Marchewicz had prevailed and taken second place behind the leading Dontje. “In the first laps I wanted to swim with the field and protect the tires for my team-mate,” said Marchewicz.

“Then there were tough but, like yesterday, fair duels. Driving there was a lot of fun. When I was able to close in on Indy Dontje at the end of my stint, I was confident that I could win today.” When the drivers changed, Phil Dörr took over Dontje’s Aston Martin and Marek Böckmann got into the Schnitzelalm-Mercedes-AMG. The gap between the two narrowed as the race progressed, lap by lap.

Seven minutes before the end of the race, race control then had to call a full-course yellow phase because the W&S Motorsport Porsche, which Max Kronberg had taken over from Still, stalled on the track. When it went green again, Böckmann reacted faster than the leading Dörr and took over the lead, which he didn’t give up until the end of the race.

“I came out of the pits in second place and initially sorted myself a bit behind the Aston Martin. But after a few laps I started to push. After the full course yellow I was able to overtake him directly from start to finish and bring home the win like this”, Böckmann described his stint.

A good three seconds behind, Marcel Lenerz, who took over the Toyota from Piro, crossed the finish line in third place. Julian Hanses and Theo Oeverhaus (CV Performance Group) finished fourth in another Mercedes-AMG, which also meant victory for Oeverhaus in the junior classification.

Fifth place went to the Aston Martin duo of Hugo Sasse and Mike David Ortmann (Prosport Racing) ahead of brand colleagues Ben Dörr and Romain Leroux (Dörr Motorsport) as well as Robert Haub and Gabriela Jilkova (Drago Racing Team ZVO) in another Mercedes-AMG.

The top 10 were completed by Nicolaj Möller Madsen and Finn Zulauf (AVIA W&S Motorsport) in the Porsche as well as the two Mercedes-AMGs driven by Denis Bulatov and Lukas Mayer (EastSide Motorsport) and Lucas Mauron and Ferdinand Winter (CV Performance Group). Victory in the Trophy classification went to the Porsche duo Tano Neumann and Joachim Bölting (Overdrive Racing).

Indy Dontje – second place for Dörr Motorsport: “I got off to a good start but found it a bit difficult to find my rhythm after that. But then I was able to pull away a bit in front. However, I also saw that the Mercedes-AMG behind me was quite fast. Unfortunately, Phil in lost the lead in the second half of the race. Overall, our pace was really good today. After we had a bad day yesterday, we were able to score a lot of points again today and regain the lead in the standings. That’s really nice, of course.”

Phil Dörr – second place for Dörr Motorsport: “After we had an accident yesterday, our guys had to work all night. So I’m also happy for our team that we had great pace in the car again today. With second place, we were able to give something back to everyone. That at the restart Losing a place was my fault because I was in the wrong gear.”
