Premier Padel, Madrid tournament: first time for Tapia / Gutierrez

Doha, Rome, Paris and now Madrid. The Premier Padel Tour is back, this time in the Spanish capital with a P1 tournament, the equivalent of a Master 1000 in tennis, the first of a series of events scheduled between now and the end of 2022. After the three Majors around the world comes a smaller tournament for prize money and points for the ranking, but just as impressive. Among other things, it is played in Madrid, a country where padel is very popular, and the next will be in Argentina (in Mendoza from 8 to 14 August). The first rounds of the main draw, drawn on Sunday 31st after qualifying, will start today. Final scheduled for August 6 at the WiZink Center.

All the big names were present. From the numbers one of the circuit Juan Lebron and Ale Galan, already winners in the Majors of Rome and Paris, to Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno, defeated in the semifinals at Roland Garros but winners in Doha. Then Pablo Lima and Franco Stupaczuk, Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello, Fernando Belasteguin and Arturo Coello, up to Augustin Tapia and Sanyo Gutierrez, both Argentines, at their first participation in the Premier Padel. The two, absent from all majors due to issues related to contracts with sponsors, have won 5 titles of the World Padel Tour (the other world circuit) and will be the loose cannon of the tournament. Drawn by the draw on the left side of the board, a possible crossing with Galan / Lebron in the semifinals is expected. The tournament will be broadcast on Sky starting from the quarter-finals.

Four blues in the main draw. This is Matias Nicoletti, who paired with Mario Ortega will deal with the Spanish tandem Castillo / Bressel. Denis Perino, on the other hand, together with Arnau Ayats, will play against Gutierrez / Windahl, while Aris Patiniotis and Nicolas Suescun, respectively in tandem with Rivera and Santana, will face Melendez / Solano and Sans / Alba, two Spanish couples. Nothing to do for Simone Cremona / Marco Cassetta, Lorenzo Di Giovanni / Agustin Salandro, Filippo Scala / Nicolò Cotto, Marcelo Capitani / Rocafort Lores and Daniele Cattaneo / Riccardo Sinicropi, stopped in qualifying.
