Premier, Liverpool win 6-0. Count loses to Burnley

The Reds overwhelm Leeds and approach Guardiola: the usual protagonist Salah, author of two goals and an assist. Watford beaten at home by the Crystal Palace

Eight points recovered over Manchester City, over a month and five days. Enough to reopen the title race once and for all, enough to move to -3 from Guardiola’s team, still leaders: Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool overwhelm Leeds (6-0) in the recovery of the 19th day of the championship. The usual protagonist Salah, author of two goals and an assist. While United are involved in the Champions League in Madrid, Watford and Crystal Palace also took the field in England (1-4 the final result, with goals from Mateta, Gallagher and a brace from Zaha for the guests), as well as Tottenham, guests of Burnley. In the match valid for the 18th round, the Spurs remedy the fourth defeat in the last five Premier League outings.

Another blow for Antonio Conte’s team: after Saturday’s victory against Manchester City, Kane and his teammates fall again in the league, leaving three points on the field of the penultimate Burnley in the standings. After a first half devoid of particular emotions, Tottenham touched the net at the start of the second half, with a header by Kane that was printed on the crossbar in the 47th minute. In the following minutes, the Spurs continue to miss the appointment with the goal: the conclusions of Kulusevski and (again) Kane end just to the side. At 71 ‘comes the advantage of the hosts: free kick from the right by Brownhill, captain Mee jumps higher than Romero and kicks for 1-0. Ten minutes later, Jay Rodriguez blatantly misses the double, kicking over the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten. In the final minutes, the visitors tried to equalize with Lucas Moura and Bergwijn but their shots ended up respectively high and in Pope’s arms. Tottenham thus remains at -7 from the Champions League, but with two more games to recover. Burnley is instead in the red part of the standings, albeit with three games less than Brentford, now fourteenth at +4.

WATFORD-CRYSTAL PALACE 1-4

While Liverpool and Tottenham respectively attempt the assault to the top and to the Champions-zone, the Crystal Palace gains ground in the battle-salvation taking to +9 on the third last place. Host of Watford (now penultimate, due to the success of Burnley), Vieira’s team won 4-1 scoring two goals per half. After a quarter of an hour the guests are already in the lead thanks to Mateta’s shot but just three minutes later Sissoko signs the equalizer with a header: Kiko Feminia’s corner kick, the French midfielder jumps higher than all and goes 1-1. After a wasted opportunity on each side – Dennis for Watford, Olise for the Palace -, Conor Gallagher made 1-2 in the 42nd minute, collecting the assist from Mitchell in the center of the area. In the second half, the signature on Zaha’s scoresheet arrives twice: the Ivorian beats Foster in the 85th and 90th minutes.

A time for Salah, another for Manè. Jurgen Klopp smiles thanks to the feats of his winger, who overwhelm Leeds and go wild … for a while each. In the first fraction, the Egyptian participates in all three of the Reds’ goals, transforming two penalties (the first awarded for a touch of the Dallas hand, the second for an allegedly irregular withholding on Manè) and, in the middle, serving to Matip the ball of doubling: the former Roma – at 10 assists this season – rewards the insertion of the Cameroonian defender, who after the advance ball and chain finds the one-two with Momo and sends in the net with the right . In the second half, everything happens in the last quarter of an hour: at 80 ‘Manè signs the poker on Henderson’s assist, eleven minutes later he repeats scoring the 5-0. Van Dijk also took part in the goal, with a header in the 93rd minute overtaking Meslier, taking advantage of the corner kick beaten by Robertson. A little over a month ago – last January 16 – the points that separated the City from the Reds were eleven: the slips of Guardiola’s team against Southampthon (draw) and Tottenham (defeat) paved the way for Henderson & Co to recover. now at -3.
