Tottenham Hotspur provisionally took the lead in the Premier League on Saturday (October 7th, 2023) despite being outnumbered for the entire half. Meanwhile, Manchester United avoided another setback thanks to Scott McTominay.
The “Spurs” won 1-0 (0-0) at newly promoted Luton Town. The only goal was scored by former Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven (52′), Yves Bissouma saw a yellow-red card in stoppage time in the first half (45’+4). Tottenham have taken 19 out of 21 points from the last seven games and have at least temporarily taken the lead in the table.
The winner of the top game between FC Arsenal and Manchester City can overtake them again on Sunday (5.30 p.m.), and in the event of a draw, Tottenham would remain at the top.
Manchester celebrates late, Chelsea wins confidently
Manchester United can only dream of these table regions at the moment, but Scott McTominay still caused huge celebrations at Old Trafford. The guests led against FC Brentford for a long time thanks to a goal from Mathias Jensen (26th), but the Scottish international turned things around in stoppage time. First McTominay equalized (90th+3), then he headed the winning goal (90th+6).
As a result, Man United moved past Chelsea FC in the table, who were also able to celebrate a sense of success – albeit a much less dangerous and convincing one. Despite the early deficit by Wilson Odobert (15th), an own goal from Ameen al-Dakhil (42nd), Cole Palmer (50th/penalty), Raheem Sterling (65th) and Nicolas Jackson (74th) ensured a clear 4th :1 (1:1) win at newly promoted FC Burnley.
