The young and wild of Arsenal FC put pressure on the leaders from the first minute with consistent speed football. A route that Manchester City never got. Above all, the lively Gabriel Martinelli (20) on the left and Bukayo Saka (20) on the opponent’s right attacking side couldn’t get City under control at all.
Oedegaard and Tierney prepare – Saka converts to 1-0
And so Pep Guardiola’s team needed a lot of luck in the 10th minute when the VAR did not classify a foul by keeper Ederson on Martin Oedegaard as worthy of a penalty.
Arsenal could not be dissuaded, however. And in the 31st minute the time had come: after preliminary work by Oedegaard, Kieran Tierney played an intelligent flat pass from the left flank into the penalty area, where Saka ran right in and turned us flat from 12 meters to 1-0.
Xhaka draws, Bernardo Silva falls – City turns the game
In the second section, the league leaders gained a little, but needed a donkey from Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka to equalize: The Swiss pulled Bernardo Silva in his own 16-inch jersey, which resulted in the penalty. Riyad Mahrez didn’t miss the chance – 1-1.
Only a few moments the next low blow for the Londoners: Defender Gabriel had to leave the field with a yellow-red card. There were only ten of Arsenal left. And from then on I had to at least defend the draw. Which didn’t work in the end because Rodri was spot on in stoppage time and pushed the ball out of the crowd to 2-1 for City over the line.
Medical emergency in Watford – “Spurs” win late
When playing between the Watford FC and Tottenham Hotspur there was a medical emergency in the stands shortly before the end, and the game had to be interrupted for several minutes. Referee Robert Jones stopped the encounter so the doctors could walk across the field and carry out their treatment unhindered.
In stoppage time (95th + 6th) Davinson Sanchez headed to win the “Spurs “after Heung-Min Son took a hard free kick in front of the hosts’ goal. Tottenham remained unbeaten in their eighth league game under Antonio Conte and reduced the gap to fourth to two points.
Palace wakes up too late
The third game of the evening was again very exciting – but it didn’t look like it for a long time. West Ham United led to Crystal Palace thanks to the goals of Michail Antonio (22nd) and two times Manuel Lanzini (25th / 45th) already 3-0 before it got tight in the end. Odsonne Edouard made it 3-1 with seven minutes before the final whistle, and Michael Olise scored the next goal in the 90th minute. But it wasn’t enough for more in front of 24,351 fans in Selhurst Park.
