Sheikh Jassim wants ownership of a Premier League team
His last failed attempt was Manchester United
The sheikhs from Qatar, despite the fact that their country has already passed the World Cup, do not want to separate themselves from football. The last minute disagreement with Manchester United, to take over the club, has been a setback for Sheikh Jassimwho continues to look for other alternatives to take over a team in the English league.
The purchase made by Jim Ratcliffe, to take over 25% of the ownership of the ‘red devils’, has left the Qatari businessman no option. However, despite being “angry and disappointed” at this circumstance, he has already begun contacts with another Premier League club to become the absolute leader.
Liverpool has been proposed as one of the great options for the sheikh, since last year it was reported that the owners Fenway Sports Group had put it up for sale, stating in a statement that they would “consider new shareholders if it were best for the club.” Furthermore, it is not the first time that the ‘red’ team has received proposals from shareholders, in part, because as a result of globalization many teams are already owned abroad (see the case of Newcastle).
Although John Henry, main owner of Fenway Sports Group, has previously rejected the possibility of selling the club, he has not closed his mind to the possible entry of shareholders. However, Sheikh Jassim will want to change his mind in future negotiations to try to buy it outright.
