Third highest “Spurs” bankruptcy
Newcastle United impressively defended their place in the top four of the Premier League in a veritable goal festival and sent Tottenham Hotspur back home with a 6-1 win. For the “Spurs” it was the third highest bankruptcy in the club’s history in the upper house – the Londoners also conceded the highest in the 1996/97 season against the “Magpies” (to the statistics). Eddie Howe’s team had already led 5-0 against the capital club after 21 minutes.

Right winger Jacob Murphy opened the scoring in the second minute, Joelinton (6th) and Murphy again (9th) shocked the sixth most valuable team in the league in the early stages. Cristian Stellini’s team then went completely under the wheels, center forward Alexander Isak made it 5-0 with a brace (19th, 21st) and thus put the lid on the game early on. Even though top striker Harry Kane scored the consolation goal shortly after the restart in the second half, there was nothing left for Tottenham to gain at St. James’ Park. Callum Wilson made it 6-1 in the 67th minute.
For the time being third in the table, Newcastle are getting closer and closer to qualifying for the European “premier class” by beating their direct rivals with five games still to be played. Tottenham, meanwhile, had to accept a severe setback in the fight for just this – with six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, the Londoners remain in fifth place (as of the current Premier League table).
