Manchester United surprisingly dropped two points against Leeds United in the fight for the Premier League title. Even for the one point it took a catch-up game in the catch-up game on Wednesday evening (February 08, 2023).
At 2: 2 (0: 1) ManU – with Bayern loan Marcel Sabitzer in the starting XI – was caught cold in the first minute. Wilfried Gnonto got the ball after a mistake by Bruno Fernandes and made it 1-0 with a sharp shot from 19 meters out. After that, United put pressure on, but lacked a clear game plan and missed many good chances.
Leeds without Jesse Marsch for the first time
Leeds held up well in the first game after the dismissal of ex-Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch, the interim trio of Chris Armas, Michael Skubala and Paco Gallardo had done an excellent tactical job. Three minutes after the second half, the visitors even made it 2-0, United defender Raphael Varane unluckily carried a hard cross from Crysencio Summerville over his own goal line.
This was followed by furious attacks from the Red Devils, Marcus Rashford (62nd) brought the hosts back into the game with his eleventh goal of the season. After that, former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho United saved the one point with a courageous shot from the left in the 70th minute.

Due to mental and physical problems, the 22-year-old took a break for almost three months and only celebrated his comeback last week. United are third in the table on 43 points, two behind city rivals Manchester City and seven behind leaders Arsenal, who have played two games in hand. Leeds have now gone eight league games without a win and are 16th.
