In the Premier League, there have recently been frequent game cancellations due to many corona cases. Now the league wants to ensure uniform guidelines with a new rule. These apply from the next match day.
After numerous game cancellations forced by the corona pandemic and loud criticism from the clubs, the English Premier League wants to ensure a better structure with new rules. As the league announced on Wednesday, clubs will have to prove that they have at least four players in their ranks who have tested positive in order to request a game cancellation. The new rules will take effect on the next match day in early February.
Previously, teams had to compete if they had at least 13 players and a goalkeeper. In December and January, a total of 22 games were canceled due to the corona pandemic.
The clubs had repeatedly criticized the old rules as unrealistic. There were repeated discussions, most recently because of the relocation of the London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
