Premier League | Financial offenses: Everton FC and Nottingham Forest are threatened with point deductions

The traditional clubs FC Everton and Nottingham Forest are threatened with point deductions in English football due to violations of financial rules.

As the Premier League announced on Monday, both clubs have admitted their wrongdoings. Both first division teams are in danger of relegation anyway, and for Everton it would even be the second sanction: the club has appealed against a ten-point deduction that has already been imposed.

The offenses were identified at the end of the 2022/2023 season and the clubs’ losses were above the permissible thresholds for the assessment period. The two cases will now be forwarded and an independent commission must decide on an appropriate sanction in each case.

Nottingham (20 points) and Everton (17) are currently in 15th and 17th place in the Premier League, with the relegation zone starting at 18th place.

The decisions could have a major impact on the race to stay in England’s top league. However, Everton is still hoping for a successful appeal against the ten point deduction that has already been taken into account.
