Tottenham not international
A solid volley from midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré keeps Everton in the Premier League: The “Toffees” saved themselves with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth on the last day of the game, while Leicester City and Leeds United have to go after the previously determined Southampton are relegated to the House of Commons. Tottenham and Brentford missed out on international business as Aston Villa beat Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
The direct duel between the “Spurs” and the “Peacocks” was particularly explosive on matchday 38 because there was still a lot at stake for both teams – while Tottenham grasped at the last straw with a view to international business, Leeds needed in the fight for relegation a threesome. However, the side with the more than twice as valuable squad from London prevailed 4-1 thanks to a brace from Harry Kane and goals from Pedro Porro and Lucas Moura to propel United back into the Championship for the first time since 2019/20.
However, Tottenham’s victory was of no use in the table. Because Aston Villa beat Brighton’s “Seagulls” thanks to Douglas Luiz and Ollie Watkins, coach Unai Emery’s team will start next season in the Conference League. Together with Leeds, the 2016 champions Leicester City are relegated again after nine years despite a 2-1 draw against West Ham because Everton showed no weaknesses against the “Cherries”.
The English champions Manchester City, who were already established before the match day, lost 0-1 (0-0) at FC Brentford in London without numerous regular players, including Ilkay Gündogan and Erling Haaland. Second-placed Arsenal FC outclassed Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-0 (3-0) thanks to a brace from Granit Xhaka (11/14) and goals from Bukayo Saka (27′), Gabriel Jesus (58′) and Jakub Kiwior ( 78.).

Liverpool FC, fifth in the final table, fought a spectacular exchange of blows with relegated Southampton FC, in which coach Jürgen Klopp’s team first gambled away a two-goal advantage and then caught up a two-goal deficit. Diogo Jota (10th/73rd), Roberto Firmino (14th) in his last game for the Reds and Cody Gakpo (72nd) scored in the 4: 4 (2: 2), which was of no sporting importance.
