Premier League: Everton defies point deduction with winning streak

As of: December 14, 2023 5:14 p.m

Since it became known that Everton FC was threatened with a penalty of ten points, the “Toffees” have been busy collecting points – most recently nine in nine days.

Everton FC is now very familiar with the bottom half of the Premier League table: in the last two seasons, the “Toffees” fought against relegation for a long time and only secured relegation late on. They have always succeeded: Everton has played in the top English league since the Premier League was founded in 1992.

After the points deduction, Everton wins three out of four games

Everton FC is likely to face a relegation battle again this season. In mid-November it was announced that the Liverpool club would be deducted ten points due to a breach of financial rules. A bitter setback that suddenly found Everton in the bottom of the table.

Everton announced an appeal against the verdict. And the “Toffees” are also defending themselves against falling into the relegation zone in terms of sport: since the penalty became public, they have won three of four games. Within nine days, Nottingham Forest (1-0), Champions League participants Newcastle United (3-0) and Chelsea FC (2-0) were beaten. Thanks to their most recent run, coach Sean Dyche’s team is currently still above the line even after deducting the ten points.

Everton’s defense in particular has been stable so far

Dyche praised the effort of his players after the recent win over Chelsea. “I think the mentality here continues to grow“, the coach says on the homepage of the “Toffees“quoted. The defense is particularly convincing at the moment, not allowing a goal in all three victories and having previously been stable: only Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC and Manchester City have conceded fewer goals in the season so far.”The two central defenders and the goalkeeper play very well” said Dyche, who couldn’t stop raving: “I could list them all at the moment.”

On Saturday (December 16, 2023, 6:30 p.m.) Everton will be visiting Burnley FC. The promoted team is currently in second-to-last place, so it should be a direct competitor for relegation for Dyche and his team. A win, then the fourth in a row, would further ease the situation at Everton FC.
