London (AP) – Eight months after his dramatic collapse and on the day of his 30th birthday, Denmark’s soccer star Christian Eriksen has returned to the lawn.
In a friendly for his new club Brentford FC, Eriksen played an hour and assisted in a 3-2 win against Southend United. It was the midfielder’s first game for the English Premier League club. Eriksen also had two chances to score in the early minutes, but were denied by guest keeper Collin Andeng Ndi. Spectators were not allowed at the game on a training ground. However, Eriksen’s template can be seen on a Twitter video from Brentford.
The 109-time Denmark international, who is also aiming for a return to the selection and a place at the World Cup in Qatar, returned to the Premier League on the last day of the transfer window. Eriksen had previously had to undergo extensive medical examinations at newly promoted Brentford. He suddenly collapsed on June 12, 2021 during the European Championship game against Finland in front of his home crowd in Copenhagen – his heart stopped without warning. Eriksen had to be resuscitated, after which he was implanted with a defibrillator.
