London (AP) – The English Premier League has canceled two games on traditional Boxing Day. As the league announced, the matches against Liverpool FC against Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers against Watford FC had to be postponed due to corona outbreaks.
According to the announcement, the move was at the request of Leeds and Watford. Six out of ten matches had already been canceled on the previous day of the Premier League. At a meeting on Monday, however, the clubs had agreed not to take a break over Christmas.
“The board has come to the conclusion that Leeds will not be able to play at the weekend due to Covid-19 cases, injuries and illnesses. In addition, the club’s training ground has been closed,” said the league. Watford would also not have enough players available. It is assumed, however, that the London club’s game on December 28th could take place as planned.
