Premier League, bodycams debut for Wolves-Tottenham

Have you ever seen a football match from the perspective of a footballer? From this weekend in England it will be possible: the debut at Molineaux

The Premier League is ready to introduce something new that could, in the future, change the way fans and enthusiasts perceive and see football being played. On the occasion of the lunch match on Saturday 11 November between Wolverhampton and Tottenham, the players will enter the pitch with “bodycams”, small cameras capable of offering a different perspective from the one we are used to: we will see the actions directly from the perspective of the soccer players.

bodycam in the warm-up

Let’s go step by step. What are bodycams? They are small cameras, often portable and adaptable, which will be installed on a vest that the footballer will wear under his playing shirt, which in turn will have a small hole at the height of the lens. In this way, the bodycams will be able to monitor and record the movements and dialogues of the players and the people with whom they interact (teammates, opponents, referee…). On the occasion of Wolves-Spurs, and thanks to the collaboration between Tnt Sports and the Football Association, two players will wear bodycams in the pre-match warm-up. To date, the Premier League prohibits its use in official matches, but tomorrow’s will be a first experiment to evaluate its adoption in the 90 minutes of play.

precedents

Already this summer two Premier League clubs had the opportunity to experiment with them. During a friendly match between Aston Villa and Newcastle in the pre-season, Youri Tielemans and Bruno Guimaraes played with the bodycam. Milan also played a friendly match against Cologne in which a German player was gifted.
