Fernandes misses penalty
Arsenal FC have won their second top game in the Premier League in just a few days after beating Chelsea during the week. The Gunners beat Manchester United 3-1 (2-1) in the race for fourth place in the Champions League on Saturday. The gap between the sixth-placed “Red Devils” and fourth place in the Champions League, on which Arsenal are, is already six points and the Londoners have one game less.
Nuno Tavares gave Arsenal the lead after just three minutes, and the Gunners’ home-grown player Bukayo Saka increased the penalty in the 32nd minute – the 20-year-old’s eleventh goal of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo with his 16th goal of the season – the Portuguese was in the starting XI despite the death of his newborn son a few days ago – shortened before half-time (34th), ex-Gladbacher Granit Xhaka restored the old gap 20 minutes before the end . This was also possible because United star Bruno Fernandes failed from the point for the second time this season (57th). Referee Craig Pawson had previously decided on a hand penalty in favor of the guests.
Arsenal fans applauded Ronaldo in the 7th minute. “Great gesture from the Arsenal supporters, with a round of applause for Cristiano in the seventh minute,” Man United tweeted during the game. The gesture alludes to the fact that the superstar has worn the shirt number 7 for years in the club and in the national team. During the week during the game against Liverpool, supporters from both fan camps supported the former world footballer and sang the Reds anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” together.
