Liverpool second after 3-0
Manchester City missed the chance to extend their lead in the Premier League and drew for the first time this season. At Chelsea FC, coach Pep Guardiola’s team scored a spectacular 4:4 (2:2) on Sunday. Former Dortmund player Erling Haaland scored twice again in London.
At Stamford Bridge, Haaland initially gave Man City the lead with a penalty kick in the 25th minute. Shortly afterwards, Thiago Silva (29th) equalized for the hosts. Former City striker Raheem Sterling (37th) made it 2-1 for Chelsea before ex-BVB defender Manuel Akanji (45th+1) equalized for Guardiola’s team led by ex-Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol. The score was 2-2 going into the half-time break.
Immediately after the restart, Haaland scored again (47th). The wild exchange of blows between the two teams continued. After Nicolas Jackson’s equalizer (67th), both teams played for victory. Chelsea goalscorer Silva deflected a shot from Manchester’s Rodri (86th) unstoppable for his goalkeeper Robert Sánchez. But Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (90+5), who came from Man City’s youth ranks and moved to Chelsea for 47 million euros in the summer, brought the final point with his converted penalty to make it 4-4.

Man City leads the Premier League table with 28 points, one point ahead of second Liverpool and third Arsenal. Fourth place is occupied by Tottenham Hotspur (26 points). Chelsea FC, who got out of the crisis a week ago with a 4-1 win at Spurs, remain in tenth place in the table after the draw.
Liverpool are second in the Premier League after beating Brentford 3-0
Liverpool FC climbed to second place in the table with their sixth home win in a row this season. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team won 3-0 (1-0) on Sunday before the international break against FC Brentford, which had recently been in strong form, and thus moved past Tottenham and, due to the better goal difference, also Arsenal FC, who were tied on points.
The Egyptian star striker Mohamed Salah (39th/62nd minute) scored twice for the Reds at Anfield and thus reached the mark of 200 goals in English football. Diogo Jota (74th) made the decision. Liverpool had previously been unlucky on several occasions. Two goals from Darwin Núñez were disallowed for being offside.
The guests from London, who were still without their long-term suspended striker Ivan Toney, played well for long periods and had good chances, but did not take advantage of them. After three league wins in a row, Brentford slipped to tenth place in the Premier League table.
