Pregnant woman rescued from rubble after 115 hours in Turkey, earthquake death toll rises to 23,000 in affected countries | Abroad

UpdateIn Turkey, 67 people have been pulled alive from the rubble in the past 24 hours after Monday’s devastating earthquake. This was announced by Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay on Friday evening. The search for survivors continues, although hope is waning.

Despite this, a 46-year-old man was pulled from the rubble of a seven-story building by rescue services in Kahramanmaras 112 hours after the quake. In Gaziantep province, a pregnant woman was rescued after 115 hours.

In the same province, a 9-year-old girl was also pulled alive from the rubble after 108 hours, although her parents and sister could not be saved. A family of six was also pulled from the rubble 102 hours after the quake, the state news agency Anadolu reported.

Death toll continues to rise

The death toll from Monday’s devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region rose to more than 23,000 on Friday. In Turkey, meanwhile, 19,875 people have been killed and 79,717 injured. Turkish President Erdogan admitted on Friday that there have been “certain setbacks” in the Turkish government’s response to the deadly earthquake.

According to Turkish President Erdogan, 141,000 Turkish and foreign rescue workers have been deployed. Already 97 countries have sent aid to Turkey, including our country.

Syria

Rescue workers in Syria have also sharply criticized the lack of aid in certain areas. Syria has already counted 3,384 dead.

The United Nations estimates that the earthquake left some 5.4 million people homeless.

The first earthquake occurred early Monday morning with a magnitude of 7.7. On Monday afternoon, a second quake with a magnitude 7.6 followed. More than 1,000 aftershocks have occurred since then, according to Turkish authorities.
