Pregnant and hired: the story of Federica and an enlightened entrepreneur

“Hdid you want to have a child? She stays at home. If you get pregnant, you need to discharge. Choose: either the family or the job ». How many women Are they heard and will they still hear these words?

Paola Cortellesi: «Maternity or work? Women forced to choose

If you’re pregnant … get hired

This is (fortunately) a different story. And even if in a civilized country it should not be considered exceptional news, instead, in our country, a young woman being hired “Despite” having communicated at the selection interview of being pregnant, is reported in all the newspapers.

A story that reminds us, if we ever forgot it, the strain women are subjected to every day at work and on how much more complicated it is for them to enter and keep a stable job, when they also decide to create a family and have children.

How complicated it is without help, without adequate welfare, without support, to keep everything in balance.

Maternity and work: Federica’s story

History the entrepreneur himself tells it on Facebook on February 14, Saint Valentine’s day. «This is Federica Granai. After being out of work, she has an interview with us. At the selection there are several candidates. We are looking for someone for Customer Care. We are very selective. To enter our company, two interviews and three practical tests are required. Plus the final one with me ».

Federica however, this job really wants it and, in fact, passes all the tests and is the best of all. So much so that she is told that the final choice is her and that she can therefore begin the trial period. The girl is happy, but she knows that she will soon be a mother and does not feel like accepting before informing the owner.

The normal “confession” and the surprise

“With a look full of fear he tells me that he has to tell me something” says the entrepreneur on the social network. “‘What’s going on Federica?’ I ask worried. And Federica takes courage: “to be fair, before starting, I’ll tell you I’m pregnant …”. “That’s all?” I reply smiling “What wonderful news!” “.

Federica looks at him happy, but surprised. But how, she didn’t say “no, then that’s not the case”? It really wasn’t what she expected, thinking, on the contrary that she had already missed that opportunity that she really cared about.

“Pregnancy is not a problem”

The entrepreneur reassured her that her pregnancy «is absolutely not a problem for us. We NEVER ask a woman if she has children or if she plans to have them“.

And so the girl starts working and immediately shows herself very smart. Her tutor follows her and shapes her. She then she does other training courses and shows a great aspiration to be part of the team. As time passes, she is put into Smart Working. And before she goes pregnant, her probationary period ends.

pregnant and work

Maternity and work: Diego was born

“She is moved to Provisioning and learns many other activities. Become precise, punctual and competent “continues the entrepreneur. “Then her maternity period begins.

A few months ago she became a mother and her son Diego is wonderful. Since a few weeks he started to work again with us alternating days in presence and days in Smart Working ».

The enlightened or simply normal entrepreneur

It is not the first time that the company has confirmed a girl who becomes pregnant while doing her trial period: “With us it doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman. It matters if you are good or not and if you reach the assigned goals. Hope that soon look of fear that I saw in Federica, disappear soon from the eyes of all women who have to communicate to their employers the arrival of a child.

Hope every womanwho are 63 percent of us, may soon have the same chances as a man in the world of work.

I hope you never ask a woman again, at an interview, if she has children or is planning to have them. Instead, I hope that the smile for the beauty of a new life that is coming soon appears in everyone, especially entrepreneurs. Because a child must never be a problem“. Amen
