After a good 13 months, Edin Terzic is back on the pitch as the new head coach at Borussia Dortmund. Full of energy and in a good mood, the 39-year-old, who was warmly welcomed by the fans, started the preparation session on the pitch with his team on Wednesday afternoon at the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel.
Led by defense chief Mats Hummels, the 19 football professionals entered the field at 3.56 p.m. after a short session before the first official training session.
At the start of the new season, Marco Rose’s successor had to do without a few prominent players in front of around 1,300 fans. The top additions Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg), Niklas Süle (Bayern Munich), Karim Adeyemi (RB Salzburg), Salih Özcan (1. FC Köln) and Sebastien Haller (Ajax Amsterdam) were still missing and, like the other national players, will only be there start training on July 8th.
The only new signing was goalkeeper Alexander Meyer from Jahn Regensburg. The injured Marco Reus, Mo Dahoud, Emre Can and Felix Passlack were also not available.
On the two days before, the professionals completed the performance diagnostics at the TU Dortmund and at the training ground. “I find it very exciting what you can test, what details you can still work on,” said Hummels.
Dortmund will play their first test match on July 5 against the Westphalian league club Lüner SV. Before the training camp from July 15th to 23rd in Bad Ragaz, Dortmund will play in two preparatory games at Dynamo Dresden (July 9th) and at SC Verl (July 14th). The first competitive game for BVB is on July 29 with the first round game in the DFB Cup against TSV 1860 Munich.
