Prada initiates the succession and gets former Luxottica boss for support

Prada has begun succession planning and is counting on former Luxottica boss Andrea Guerra to handle the change in management at the luxury house.

Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada are expected to hand over management of the company to their eldest son, Lorenzo Bertilli, who joined the company in 2007 as director of digital communications. Guerra will lead the company’s management during the potential handover and could start as early as January following approval by Prada’s board of directors, reports Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

Lorenzo Bertelli, a former racing driver who currently holds the role of the Group’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, commented on his succession options last year: “The discussion runs in the family. I can’t say if that will be the case in three, four or five years. For a group like ours, it’s important to approach a follow-up phase in the right way.”

Miuccia Prada has similarly planned the succession of the brand’s creative strategy, hiring Belgian designer Raf Simons as its 2020 co-creative director. Simons announced earlier this month that he will be ending his own label in 2023.
