Prada boldly romantic, Max Mara monochrome

A bold mix of history and today – this is what the new Prada fashion looks like. It was presented on Thursday afternoon at Milan Fashion Week, where the trends for the fall/winter 2024/25 season can be seen until Monday.

“Instinctive Romance” is how Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the creative duo of the Milan trend label, title their new collection. The approach: learn from the past to create something new. Following his example, they combine biker and bomber jackets with skirts with peplums and bow details.

Female clichés such as bows, ruffles and fringes are broken almost ironically with masculine fabrics. And military-looking caps are enthroned above them. White undergarments peek out from under many of the dresses. The biggest coup of the collection are the costumes, but also individual skirts and jackets, whose wool fabric on the front is contrasted by silky fabrics at the back.

Max Mara pays homage to Colette

For Max Mara, Colette is the woman of the hour. The Italian fashion house dedicated its latest collection to the legendary French writer. As always, the focus is on the coat, the core of Max Mara’s brand. It is often very long, sometimes crosses the border into a cardigan or here and there takes up the shape of the male pea coat.

The looks are often monochrome, the focus is on the form. Japanese influences flow in via kimono sleeves and obi belts. Dress shapes from the boudoir style are translated into everyday versions made of tweed and flannel.

Etro relies on the Odyssey

Etro brought both the women’s and men’s collections onto the catwalk on Wednesday evening. For the fashion presented there, creative director Marco De Vincenzo was inspired by Greek mythology and Homer’s “Odyssey” became clothing. In a dark color scale led by brown tones, shapes that envelop the body meet compact jackets and coats with a striking emphasis on the shoulders. Colorful prints adorn felt and leather. The paisley pattern, Etro’s trademark, is reimagined in a coarse-meshed knit.
