Powerless Ajax is hit hard in the empty Arena in the remainder of the Classic against Feyenoord

Ajax suffered a painful defeat in the remainder of the Classic. The team of coach Maurice Steijn was unable to make any progress in the 35 remaining minutes against Feyenoord. The final score of the Classic, which was stopped on Sunday, was 0-4 for the Rotterdam team.

In the meantime, no fewer than two leaders have disappeared from Ajax. Technical Director Sven Mislintat was fired on Sunday evening by the Amsterdam club. Made half an hour before the start of the match Pier Eringa, chairman of the Supervisory Board, announced that he is leaving.

The remaining 35 minutes in the Johan Cruijff Arena started with a referee ball in Ajax’s half. Mats Wieffer was in possession of the ball on Sunday when the fireworks were thrown onto the field and the match was restarted at that location. After fourteen seconds, Feyenoord immediately had a chance from a cross through Quinten Timber, but his effort went over.

Direct goal against

Ajax was quickly put on the spot. Santiago Giménez scored in the 59th minute after receiving the ball from the carom at his feet. Feyenoord had matters completely under control and there was little question of an offensive from Ajax.

In the remaining part, Ajax had no plan at all to make things difficult for Feyenoord. Many long balls were pumped in from the back, but that posed no danger. The Rotterdam team, on the other hand, cheerfully combined through a powerless Ajax. Ten minutes before the end, substitute Akpom only got the first chance of the match on behalf of Ajax.

Gernaut Trauner still had a chance to score the fifth goal for Feyenoord, but he headed wide from a free kick. In the absolute final phase it was almost a miracle that Ajax did not concede the fifth goal, because Lingr could not get the ball in from close range.

Discontinued

The match was temporarily stopped on Sunday after throwing a cup on the field. After fireworks were thrown onto the field from the F-Side side, the match was permanently stopped. There was then great chaos outside the Johan Cruijff Arena, resulting in riot police charges, tear gas and a storming of the main entrance. The KNVB decided to finish the match at 2 p.m. The match between Ajax and FC Volendam, which was initially scheduled to be played tonight, will be made up at a later date.

Ajax has now dropped to fourteenth place in the Premier League. Next Saturday at 9 p.m. the team will visit RKC Waalwijk.
