American actor Jason David Frank, who played one of the Power Rangers in the popular children’s series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the 1990s, has died at the age of 49.

His manager Justine Hunt made this known in a statement today. She did not name the cause or time of death, but asked that the privacy of family and friends be respected “during this terrible time.”

Power Rangers

The children’s series about the Power Rangers was about five teenagers who were sent to save the earth from evil. The series started on Fox in 1993 and quickly became popular. A fighter trained in martial arts, Frank made his acting debut in the series at the beginning. Initially as a villain, but then he was accepted into the group of teenagers as the green Ranger and became one of the most popular characters on the show.

Although his role was not intended to be permanent – his role was intended to last fifteen episodes – Frank then re-emerged in the series as the white Ranger and the leader of the team. He was also seen in later series and films of the franchise. Frank, who leaves behind four children, also played in a few action films.

Walter Emmanuel Jones, the black Power Ranger who co-starred with the late Frank in the series, writes on Instagram: “I can’t believe it… RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is so sad to lose another member of our special family.” Thuy Trang, the Yellow Ranger, died in a car accident in 2001 at the age of 27.
