Power cables from attractions stolen at Avenhorn fair

Several power cables were stolen during the night from Friday to Saturday at the fair in Avenhorn. Fair operator Rick Braak says that it happens more often at fairs because there is copper in the power cables.

The thick power cables run from the attraction to the generator or to a distribution box. “The cables are 25 to 50 meters long,” says Braak. He finds it annoying that it happens, but doesn’t look at it anymore. “I believe it had happened in Tuitjenhorn and in Lelystad recently.”

The visitors of the fair are not bothered by the theft. “We always have spare cables with us, but of course not to have them stolen,” says Braak. He has also lent cables to other attractions. He himself has a whirligig and a shooting gallery at the fair.

Cost

According to Braak, a new cable can quickly cost hundreds of euros. “I often attend smaller fairs. You try to maintain this a bit for the children in the village, but this way you have little left at the end of the fair. Then the fun of these kinds of fairs is there bit off.”

But Braak does not give up. He has a simple tip against the theft. “Take in the cables at night so they can’t be stolen.” That’s what the operators in Avenhorn did last night.
