FOOTBALL – After six victories in a row, FC Emmen did not get any further than a 0-0 draw at the last of the Keuken Kampioen Division, Almere City FC. It was a poor game between two teams that actually did not deserve a goal.
Despite the draw FC Emmen did good business in the standings. Close assailant ADO Den Haag lost. In the Hofstad, MVV proved too strong with 3-2. Leader FC Volendam did win (with 2-1 against Jong AZ). As a result, Volendam now has 59 points from 26 matches, FC Emmen follows with 52 from 25 and ADO Den Haag (which is fourth, under Jong Ajax) now has 48 from 26.
Metehan Güclü
The public in Almere saw a mediocre match, with a very sharp acting Almere City FC and a very viscous FC Emmen. That actually remained the same for the entire 90 minutes, although Dick Lukkien’s substitutions in the final phase did provide more energy and impetus. The Franco-Turkish Metehan Güclü in particular created more threat. With two headers, he was even close to a sneaky victory.
Too much of a good thing
But realistically, that victory in Drenthe would have been a bit too much of a good thing, because Almere City FC had the best chance after about an hour of play. It was Michael Brouwer who saved the Drenthe club from a goal against (by Thijs van Leeuwen) with a beautiful safe.
Song invisible
Striker Mart Lieder made his basic debut at FC Emmen, but the center striker, like his teammates, had a difficult evening. The number 9 of the Drenthe club, who was hit early in the match, was actually not dangerous.
