Potato harvest will be very disappointing due to extreme drought

This is evident from trial harvesting carried out by the provincial Center for Potato Cultivation. Estimation committees are already working hard to determine the damage for an intervention by the disaster fund.

The figures are best in the Kortrijk region and the Westhoek, and are worst in the Polders. But the harvest in Tielt is also disappointing.

The lower yield will increase the price on store shelves, not only for potatoes, but also for many other agricultural products.

“It can still rain, but certain plots are already fully mature, so the rain will come too late for those plots,” it sounds.

For farmers it means another heavy loss of income.
