Postponement of the 2023 World Cup? Host Australia denies rumours

On Thursday, a French sports daily reported that the 2023 World Cup could be postponed. The host association now disagreed.

The Football Association of Australia has denied alleged plans to postpone the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand by several months from the European to the Oceanic summer. This was reported on Thursday by the French sports daily L’Equipe.

“The plans continue unchanged with a start in July,” said “Football Australia” when asked by the French news agency AFP. A spokesman for the world association Fifa also confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald that no new date was planned. The World Cup is scheduled to take place from July 20th to August 20th.

L’Equipe had reported that Fifa feared that TV audiences would lose interest in the television broadcasts due to the holiday season in Europe. The preliminary group draw will take place in Auckland on October 22nd. 32 teams are taking part in the World Cup, played in five Australian and four New Zealand cities.
