After much arguing about the weather, the match between Ajax and FC Volendam has been rescheduled. The match, which was initially scheduled for last Wednesday, will move to Thursday, November 2 at 8 p.m.
The North Holland derby had to make way for the Classic at the last minute. The match between Ajax and Feyenoord was stopped on Sunday after the hard core of Ajax threw fireworks on the field twice. The KNVB determined that the match would be played on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Volendam chairman Jan Smit was furious about the football association’s decision. “This is really unfair competition,” he wrote on Instagram after the decision.
Scheduling on Thursday, November 2, also has consequences for FC Volendam. The cup match against Excelsior Maassluis will have to be played on a different date. It is still unknown what the new date for that match will be.
