Young AZ lost at home to Willem II tonight. The score was 0-2 in Wijdewormer and a number of things went wrong, especially with the early opening goal of the Tilburg team. “I was certainly awake, but I just hit that ball completely wrong,” said the guilty defender Loek Postma.
“It’s true that it was too weak at times. We didn’t create many chances either,” Postma says about the small number of goal attempts that Jong AZ managed to produce. “We will play the long ball in the second half, but that is very difficult against such a mature team like Willem II.”
Trainer Jan Sierksma agreed with Postma’s words and saw that his team could not claim a good result. “This was not good enough for the level we were aiming for,” Sierksma said after the match. “We were much too predictable with the ball and therefore too easy to defend. We didn’t bring enough energy in the second half and we have to be critical of that.”
