Until the beginning of June, signatures will be collected in City-West for a citizens’ initiative against the expansion of parking machines within the S-Bahn ring.
“Stop it!” is written on the posters hanging on poles by a citizens’ initiative and the FDP in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Because the district office is sticking to the massive expansion of the payment zones (ticket 2-4 euros/hour). It will also be significantly more expensive for residents – the price of parking permits (vignettes) could rise to 240 euros in the next two years, at least that’s what the red-green-red Senate had planned before the election.
21 additional payment zones are planned in the district by 2027 (including Prager Platz). As early as 2007 there was a vote on whether there should be more zones. At the time, a large majority was against.
“It is up to the citizens to decide whether this decision should continue to apply. The district has to put the current plans on hold for so long,” says FDP district chief Björn Jotzo (48).
If 7,245 valid signatures (three percent of those eligible to vote) are collected by the beginning of June, this would lead to a district-wide referendum.
As in 2007, when 86.9 percent voted against an expansion.
