Postcode Loterij donates 1 million euros to the construction of a cancer center next to UMCG Groningen

The Postcode Lottery is investing 1 million euros in the construction of the first Maggie’s Center in Groningen. This was announced on Thursday afternoon at the start of construction of the cancer center, right next to the UMCG.

The check was presented to board member Ewald Lausberg of Maggie’s Centers Netherlands. “We are very surprised and also very grateful that the Postcode Lottery has made such an enormous amount available. This is an important support for us to ensure that we can support cancer patients in the Northern Netherlands, not to mention their loved ones.”

The center must become a homely place for cancer patients and their family and friends, where they receive free psychosocial help and guidance. Maggie’s Center is being built on the grounds of the UMCG, next to the proton center.

The opening is planned for early 2024.
