The police arrested three men near Purmerend Weidevenne station on Thursday afternoon around 5 p.m. They are suspected of carrying a weapon. When the police arrived at the platform, the suspects fled across the tracks. After a chase they were captured.
During the chase, one of the suspects threw something away. That may be about the firearm. A helicopter helped search for the suspects and the three men were eventually arrested on the Port Saidweg in Purmerend.
The weapon has not yet been found, the spokesperson said. That is why sniffer dogs have been deployed. No trains will run until the investigation is completed. The NS has deployed buses, reports media partner Regio Purmerend.
