Possible third wolf spotted in Flemish Brabant in two weeks | Interior

A third wolf may have been spotted in Flemish Brabant in two weeks. This is reported by Jan Loos of Welcome Wolf. It is not yet certain whether the third animal is actually a wolf: tomorrow morning Loos will look for tracks.

On Tuesday evening, Welkom Wolf received a report from a woman who allegedly saw a wolf between Neervelp and Bierbeek. “It may be that it is a wolf, but it may also be that it is nothing,” says Loos. “We’re going out tomorrow (Thursday, ed.) To look for tracks. But if it’s a wolf, it’s already the third we’ve seen in Flemish Brabant in less than two weeks.”

On February 7, several reports came in from people who had seen a wolf in Schriek, Keerbergen and Haacht. In the weekend of February 4 and 5, traces of a wolf were also found in Lovenjoel and Lubbeek.

According to Loos, these are always wandering wolves, looking for a partner and a habitat to settle. Because Flemish Brabant has few large areas of nature, it is unlikely to impossible that the animals will remain in that province, he says. “If the newly spotted animal is really a wolf, it has long since moved on to Wallonia.”

Welcome Wolf asks to report possible sightings of wolves. This can be done by telephone (+32 495 32 53 30), by e-mail ([email protected]) or via the website. welcomewolf.be.
