PORTRAIT. Lukas Dhont, our prize winner in Cannes: “As a child I had very few friends”

The Cannes Film Festival loves Lukas Dhont (31). After the director won the ‘Caméra d’or’, the prize for best debut, four years ago, he was awarded the ‘Grand Prix’, or the silver medal, for successor ‘Close’ on Saturday evening. The massive love of the audience and colleagues for the director is in stark contrast to his lonely childhood, which served as the inspiration for his second full-length. A portrait of a great filmmaker, and his two most important pillars: his mother and his other half Davy Parmentier (38), creative director at VTM. “My boyfriend has less of a problem holding my hand in public.”
