Like many other events it is Harbor Festival this weekend after three years of being away in IJmuiden. On the Trawlerkade it presents IJmuiden in all its facets: fish, tourism, art, culture and technology. There are ships to see, cruises to take, performances and presentations. Dionne Roorda of the organization: “We are eager to put IJmuiden back on the map after three years.”
The theme of the fourth edition is: IJmuiden is booming. Let wind be the subject of Piet Hein Eikel’s repertoire. At the specially designed ‘Piet Heinplein’, he is one of the musicians who expresses his love to IJmuiden.
Piet Hein Eikel does this in the form of a song about the always blowing wind in IJmuiden. It has a different association with each wind direction. North wind means the ‘smell’ of Tata Steel, the west wind carries a fishy air in IJmuiden, south wind the air of the dunes and the east wind carries the sound of cheering into the stadium.
