Manchester United has broken a special record in Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford. Never before have so many tickets been sold in one season – more than 2.3 million – for Manchester United’s home games. And the record can even be tightened.
On the club site, Manchester United reports that the more than 2.3 million tickets sold are for all nineteen home games in the Premier League this season, plus the thirteen home games in the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League added together. United’s previous record came from the 2016-17 season, when the club won the League Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
Breaking the record says a lot about how Ten Hag, who yesterday was named Premier League manager of the month for the second time, has brought back faith in Manchester. ,,This record shows the strong demand for attending matches in the Theater of Dreams. The supporters want to shout out Erik ten Hag’s team to see them advance in all four competitions we have participated in this season.
Because United was active in four competitions – one has already won in the form of the League Cup – also plays a role in breaking the record. In the League Cup, Manchester United was awarded a home game in the first three matches and the Ten Hag team did not have to play on foreign soil in the FA Cup. This increased the number of home matches, and therefore tickets.
It is certainly not excluded that United will tighten the record even further, as the team is after the victory over Real Betis pole position to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League. That means an extra home game for the Ten Hag team anyway, which (with a sold-out stadium) is good for more than 74 thousand tickets sold.
