Popovici swims a new European record at the European Championships

Double world champion David Popovici set the first European record at the European Swimming Championships in Rome.

The 17-year-old Romanian won the semi-finals of the 100m freestyle in 46.98 seconds, staying just seven hundredths above the world record set by the Brazilian Cesar Cielo, which he also swam in the Foro Italico at the 2009 World Championships.
