Poplar felling started in Knokke-Heist

The poplars were planted in the eighties. After more than forty years, they have had their best days, according to Knokke-Heist. “We have 40,000 trees in our municipality. We are going to plant about 10,000 sheets,” says alderman Kris Demeyere.

The roots push up the road surface. They are also a danger to cyclists and pedestrians during storms. Soon the 220 poplars will be replaced by new maple trees. The Kalvekeertdijk is closed for the works.
