According to her own words, the “Maria Magdalena” singer Sandra survived cancer. “It was hell, but everything is fine,” said the 60-year-old on Thursday shortly before a concert in Olomouc, Czech Republic. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2017. “But I’ve got it all behind me now. The five years are up. I am healthy again.”

She kept her cancer secret because she didn’t want to upset and sadden her fans, Sandra said at the online press conference. Now she’s looking forward to performing again. “I can’t wait.” But she doesn’t have any new songs yet. “We’re about to do something. But that will probably take another year or two.”

Friends and family, especially her two sons, contributed to her recovery. “If you have a family that supports you, then you can do it,” said the native of Saarbrücken, who has lived on the Spanish island of Ibiza for years.

She now also wants to rent an apartment in Munich in order to do more in Germany in the future. “I would be really happy because it’s my country of birth, after all.” She is planning a US tour with modern-talking star Thomas Anders for August, also because she has many fans in the United States.

Before her illness, Sandra also had many performances in Russia. At the moment she will “of course not” appear there, she said with a view to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. “And as long as the man is in power, I will certainly not enter the country,” said the 60-year-old, without naming Russian President Vladimir Putin. You have a lot of Russian fans. “And the people in Russia can’t help it.” She hopes “that all of this will settle down at some point.”

The German-French singer became world famous in the mid-1980s with “Maria Magdalena”. The biggest hit of the native of Saarbrücken, which today is hardly missing at any 80s party, was sold millions of times and made it to number one in more than 20 countries. Sandra has sold more than 30 million records. On Wednesday (May 18) she turned 60 years old.
